New Recycling Law
Effective October 1, 2009

Effective October 1, 2009 recyclable rigid plastic containers (plastic bottles), motor oil filters, certain tires and wooden pallets join a growing list of items that may no longer be sent to landfills under recent revisions to NC General Statutes § 130A-309.10.

Other items already on the banned list include aluminum cans, used oil, antifreeze, lead acid batteries, white goods and certain other beverage containers separately delineated under NC General Statutes § 18B-1006.1.  Also joining the banned list on January 1, 2011 will be computer equipment and televisions.

NOTE:  The Town of Caswell Beach provides for curbside recycling service through Waste Industries.

Recycling bins/carts are collected ONLY once per week, only on Saturday.  The Town encourages recycling of acceptable items to include plastic bottles, aluminum/steel cans, glass (clear, brown and green containers) and paper.  Every house is required to have one or more recycling bins (green color) and the Oak Island Beach Villas is required to have a rollout recycling cart (blue color) located at each condominium building.  Recycling carts (blue color) are provided at the regional beach access parking lot on Caswell Beach Road (across from Progress Energy's Pumping Station).  Recycling carts (blue color) are also located near the intersection of Jack B. Cook Road and Robert L. Jones Street (in the overflow parking area for Caswell Beach Town Hall), and a large container for recyclable cardboard is located on the south-side of Town Hall parking area.  Please call: 910-278-5471 or 1-800-814-4544 for recycling bin information.

Please contact Waste Industries (1-800-814-4544) for information regarding proper disposal of other recyclable items.
