Caswell Beach is a small seaside town located on the eastern end of Oak Island in Brunswick County, North Carolina. Established in the mid-20th century, the town is named after Fort Caswell, a military installation built in the 1830s to defend the Cape Fear River. The fort played significant roles during the Civil War, serving as a Confederate stronghold, and later during both World Wars as a training facility.
Incorporated in 1975, Caswell Beach is known for its tranquil atmosphere, scenic beaches, and commitment to preserving its natural environment. The Oak Island Lighthouse, built in 1958 and located within the town, is a prominent landmark and a draw for visitors. With a small year-round population, the town emphasizes conservation, making it a sanctuary for sea turtles and other coastal wildlife. Caswell Beach remains a peaceful retreat for residents and vacationers, offering a blend of history, natural beauty, and coastal charm.
